Akihabara Geeks is a short documentary film that takes a peruse at a day in the life of a few inhabitants of the neighborhood in Tokyo known as “Electric Town” which is the center of life for a lot of electronics, anime, and manga enthusiasts, which the narrator describes as “geeks and fanatics”. The film alternates between 4 or 5 different Akibans with different interests and lifestyles. We follow one otaku who is obsessed with cute anime girls and plasters the walls of his itsy-bitsy room with their posters and merchandise. He spends so powerful on his “hobby” that his average amount of money available for food each day is about five dollars! You might deem this guy is peculiar or disturbing but later on in the film, his obsession is explained and you are able to understand him a bit better. For people involved in computers and videogames, Akihabara focuses on one man who is trying to design the world’s fastest computer processor, called “overclocking”. Then there is a animated peep at how some people obtain computer games independently of any huge company and are able to sale around 100,000 copies and do quite well for themselves. Interviews with an employee of a maid cafe who is also a fulltime law student gives insight into why some women work in such places. Lastly, we are introduced to an older man who gave up his status in a astronomical corporation to hasten his family’s cramped electronics storefront in Akihabara. It’s so slight that he has to actually Lag into the booth!

This dvd was very delightful to me, because there are not that many dvds that give real-life tours of places of interest to people like me that are keen in the anime and manga sides of Japan and Tokyo. One thing I did not like about this present was that the narrator constantly refers to its subjects as “geeks and fanatics”, which on the one hand makes me visualize nerds, and on the other, Islamic fundamentalists. It seems a proper insult for the writers to gape down upon the very people they investigating. After finishing the film, I didn’t deem any of the people in it were very different than you and me. Even the guy that was crooked on anime girls had his have very personal reasons for his passion, related to a shadowy period in his past. The maid girl too, joined the maid cafe because when she first got to Tokyo, it was a site where she felt comfortable and delighted, so she wanted to suppose that feeling to others. In the destroy, I judge all of the Akibans shown were unbiased passionate about what they are alive to in, whether its computers, videogames, anime, serving others, or running a family business. Another complaint I have about his dvd was that it was too short, running about 45 minutes. I wanted to seek more of the town and would have enjoyed more time in the anime and manga stores. If you are an otaku, or unbiased fervent in Japan, you should like this.

And its not objective about pop culture, it brings you along on a brief day-in-the life tour of shop owners, workers, anime enthuiasts, and game designers.

Well, you accumulate a behold at the lives of about 4 people actually. But its allmost like a japanese reality tv program, but i guess it is considerable more fitting to call it a documentary.

It has safe humor, i must say. I laughed out a loud at many parts.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Akihabara Geeks! Click Here

Its even kinda touching in ways, becouse we gaze that stuff like anime, for instance, has such a strong influence on one young man’s life.

Also, the dedicated shop owner of a electronic parts store was attractive.

We also spy a designer of a very approved online game in japan.

And theres a man who builds computers and trys to top and demolish his processing race portray. Which the documentary claims holds the report for fasted computer built.

Plus, we win to meet a girl who dresses up in costumers at a resturant, who veteran to be very skittish and not many friends, but the job has helped her not be alone anymore.

Its a fun dvd, and sorta kinda appealing in a procedure, to peek the lives of people in japan who glean meaning and worth in life through what theyve approach to esteem. I didnt query that at all really.

I expected a hyper active insanly colorfull indicate on extremly fanatical anime and cosplay people in japan, but it ended up to be so powerful more than that, and has some depth.

I esteem finding these movies, becouse i havent gone to japan and i so very worthy wish to go, and this is blooming worthy all i have to explore into a country and a culture ive loved for a long time.

Its 45 minutes long, and though i concept that would be too short, it ended up that it seemed to be impartial the fair length. Regardless though, i wish i could peep more of stuff like this. I want another dvd by these people, i wanna witness more, i would savor a fragment 2.

If you adore japanese culture and savor the anime lifestyle and dream of someday going to japan or even living there…this is one of the few resources i have seen out there that gave me a notice into anything regarding japanese day to day life…. so if you adore this stuff…its definatly worth getting.

I want more japanese documentaries like this. I hope AnimeWorks plans more volumes of this.

Lastly, i consider people who have ever found inspiration or influence through anime, through out life, will report to this dvd. And dont forget, its humorous aswell. So, have fun watching it. Its a cramped esteem.

Spun-off from Animaniacs, ‘Pinky and the Brain’ has a astounding understanding that constantly bears fruit – Two lab mice (”One is a genius, the other insane” in the words of the theme tune) are constantly thwarted in their attempts to grasp over the world. Like Wile E. Coyote before them, they seem to eventually lose survey of what they are trying to do and why, and objective utilize more and more uncommon ruses to advance their target (Brain as the Country and Western singer is my favourite) .

The idea itself may not have worked if the characters weren’t so well written and performed. To my memory there was only ever three continuous characters in the indicate – Pinky, Brain and occasionally Snowball, a genius hamster and rival to Brain voiced by the unhurried, spacious Roddy McDowell. With such reliance on a petite cast (the rest of the characters featured – the humans – were different every week), the creators worked hard to come by them to be well-rounded and likable (although they are essentially villains – at least Brain is anyway) . That they came fully formed from Animaniacs is an even higher praise. The utilize of catchphrases helped get this reveal highly accessable (”Poit” and “Narf” from Pinky and “Yes!” from Brain as well as the opening exchange.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pinky and the Brain, Vol. 1! Click Here

Elsewhere on this page, the reveal is described as “mindless fun” – not so. Fun, yes. Mindless, never. This was a expose that had Looney Tunes sensibilites but with a brain (literally) . Although the writing was hit and miss at times, it was never short of bright and the animation was worthy more consistant than its parent explain which sometimes veered into amateurish. The theme tune is one that gets in the head and refuses to slip, and stare out for the definition of a unique word in the ruin credits of every exhibit.

If there is anyone in Hollywood reading this, I suggest a live-action movie version of this – its rife with possibilities! In the meantime, recall this and beget the most of a largely forgotten gem of ’90s TV.

As a long time P&B fan I was thrilled to peek the series finally coming to DVD. Many fans and would be purchasers have been concerned that this area is labeled as a “collection” of episodes instead of one or more complete “seasons”. Don’t exertion! As has been distinguished in other reviews this location (Vol I) contains ALL of season 1 and most of season 2 (the last three episodes are missing) for a total of 22 episodes. Why did they do this?? I don’t “know” for a fact but I’m certain it is so that they can release 3 volumes of approxiamtely equal size. The expose had 65 episodes total. That means 3 volumes each with 22 episodes (OK, so one of the volumes will have 21 episodes – nitpick, why dontcha!) . So if you are a fan of the explain, cast away your concerns and hold up this first volume ASAP!

For those of you who have never seen the demonstrate, examine to be pleasently surprised. This is one of those rare provocative shows that appeals to adults and children equally (well maybe not equally, I’m obvious I enjoyed watching it on TV more than my kids) . The Brain is a dapper knowing, meglamaniacal lab mouse intent on taking over the world with schemes that would construct Rube Goldberg proud. His sidekick Pinky is affable and kind hearted but somewhat dark wited. Assume of them as the bright versions of Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello.

Waco: The Rules of Engagement should be required viewing by all seniors in every public high school in the land.

This documentary may be the single most unpleasant evidence of the right impact of a rougue government, twisted on murdering it’s contain citizens. Using an impressive combination of video from the Waco plot, congressional hearings, night vision, news camera film clips and dependable testimony, this video leaves no doubt that the U.S. Government, under Janet Reno and William Jefferson Clinton murdered innocent civilians. One of the hidden stars in this movie is the arrogant, unfavorable, and totally disrepectful Charles Schummer, then a congressman. Of special interest is the infra-red film of the night sieges by the BATF and FBI where any compound resident attempting to stray outside of the buildings is summarily executed by agents equipped with night vision. The IR film conclusively shows this outright slay while the agents are shown recounting one falsehood after another. Lying, subterfuge, confusion, kill, violence against innocent citizens, all condoned by the Attorney General of the United States. It almost sounds like a made for TV movie that is too far-fetched to be factual. Sadly, it is all documented, believable, and excessively unpleasant.

As one who has long been dubious of the morals and motivations of our elected leaders (regardless of party) and – even more so -the agencies (ATF, CIA, FBI, etc.) which supposedly acknowledge to them, I was none too surprised by the revelations of the riveting 1997 documentary/expose, “Waco, The Rules of Engagement”. Those revelations, in a nutshell, are as follows: that the ATF and FBI under the leadership of Janet Reno and the Clinton Administration murdered some 86 men, women and children after a 51 day siege. Now, that these allegations do not surprise me may say more about me than it does about the dwelling of political reality in this country – I am willing to concede that – but this is a remarkable portion of film making which goes a long contrivance toward confirming any suspicions of corruption and “Ample Brotherism” myself and like minded people may have entertained.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Waco – The Rules of Engagement! Click Here

I know nothing about the filmmakers – their political leanings, religious beliefs and common colors are a mystery to me – but it seems a fine bet they lean to the left. I obtain this observation because this film is thus far my only source of information regarding the Waco tragedy and I have no thought how impartial it is or is not. It seems that there is a certain bias in favor of the Branch Davidians but, in light of the more than compelling evidence presented here against the ATF/FBI, the objectivity of the filmmakers almost seems a moot point. One of the more remarkable pieces of this evidence is the testimony from the inventor of the FLIR infrared filming technology and the describe of an independent lab, both stating that the film shot from an airplane during the raid of April 19, 1993 indicates automatic gunfire directed against the burning Branch Davidian “compound” – contrary to the FBI claim that their personnel fired no shots.

Much contested also was the direct of who fired the first shots at the beginning of this whole sorry state – the ATF or the Branch Davidians? This also is rendered a moot point, for me at least, by the fact that the government chose to announce a supposed search warrant (for illegal weapons) to David Koresh via a veritable army of ATF personnel in paunchy combat gear. I dont claim to be familiar with police design, remarkable less the arcane workings of agencies like the ATF, but this seems to me like a present of force that is meant to be intimidating and confrontational. It seems perfectly determined that the authorities had no contrivance of resolving their issues with David Koresh (and these are issues that touch all of us profoundly freedom of religion and the suitable to have arms, for instance) in a quiet manner.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Waco – The Rules of Engagement! Click Here

I have no sympathy with the teachings and lifestyle of the Branch Davidians. They may have broken some laws (and let us please believe that fair because legislation is passed does not mean it is legal) regarding weapons and, perhaps, underage sex. Whatever they did or did not do, the treatment they received at the hands of the FBI and ATF was inexcusable, grievous, and inhumane.

Did the United States government willfully destroy its occupy citizens with not even a semblance of due process in Waco in 1993? Until I procure more compelling evidence to the contrary, I must, unfortunately, say yes. Please contemplate this film and settle for yourself.

Before VH-1 started making documentaries of the making of “classic albums” (such as Jimi’s “Electric Ladyland”, Fleetwoods “Rumours”, U2’s “The Unforgettable Fire”, etc.), this independent production in living sunless & white was shot of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they became “Funky Monks” with producer extraordinaire Rick Rubin and retreated to a virtual monastery of an empty house in the hills above L.A. to portray their greatest musical achievement ever, 1991’s “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”.

>

Buy,Download, Or Stream Funky Monks! Click Here

The video/DVD shows the painstaking detail with which the breakthrough album was recorded (of particular interest is the recording of the percussive effects heard in “Breaking The Girl”) and in between recording time we examine candid glimpses of the Peppers being…well, Peppers, being dads, talking about the band philosophy and what makes them who and what they are (and skimming through the personal ads in various sex mags) .

>

And of course each Pepper’s awesome musicianship is save on present (particularly John Frusciante, who I state must be the second coming of Jimi Hendrix with his pre-addiction guitar technique, showcased in all of its glory here…the entire album was a breathtaking performance for a guitarist barely 20 years outmoded at the time) as the recording sessions are filmed.

>

Buy,Download, Or Stream Funky Monks! Click Here

The songs appear only in snippets and in various different stages of production; you won’t witness any full-length performances (although a top-notch bonus extra would have been the video for “Give It Away”, especially since -incredibly- that video somehow was not included on the “What Hits? ” DVD that was recently re-issued; more’s the pity it isn’t found here, either) . You’ll notice songs that weren’t included with “Blood Sugar…” that were later released (”Soul To Squeeze” being the the most recognizable) in addition to those that found their plot onto the final version of the album.
>
But the personality of L.A. is every bit as grand the star of this film as is the personalities of the Chili Peppers themselves. The feel of the town is everywhere, from the describe offices where the executives account for the conception slack the recording taking plot in the fashion it did to the locations where Anthony is interviewed regarding the lyrics of “Under The Bridge” to the wrap party that is held at the house once the recording has been completed…the soul of Los Angeles (such as it is) and the symbiotic association it has with the band are factors that position this filmed “making of” documentary a step above all the others; there is remarkable more than four guys in a studio and a producer in a booth…it is an encapsulation of a city and its most identifiable band, frozen in time forever.
>
In summation, don’t stare this expecting a collection of videos or a live performance; leer it with an interest in a wonderful band and the creation of their finest work and feel the city breathing through them as it happens.

This DVD is about the record of a LA rock band recording their best album ever (they didnt know it) in a mansion in Laurel Canyon with producer Rick Rubin.

This is mainly a DVD for hardcore fans, or any musician who likes to glimpse what its like to report an album with rick rubin in a broad mansion! its wonderful. its a very relaxed vibe. its a non-narrator documentary of the recording of BSSM. There are short interviews with each member and short clips of them recording songs and parts (obliging) . Anthony explains Under The Bridge, Flea talks about his bass playing, john talks about vibrations in the 4th dimention, Chad likes his motorbike.

This is 60 mins (too short in my concept) and in dismal and white. dont let the color intimidate you, it goes perfect with vibe. the sound quality is reliable. This doesnt absorb any of their music videos, or live on stage performances. i made an audio cassette tape of this and establish it in my car so i could listen to it elsewhere, i liked it that noteworthy.

if you like the chili peppers and like the studio, this is a MUST. if BloodSugarSexMagik is your current album… they you NEED THIS.

thank you have a nice day

The Movie:

Every so often in everyone’s life, they scramble out of a movie that they think perfect. A movie where you don’t sit through it and reflect to yourself how you might have done it all differently had you been the director. I have a couple of movies like that, and “The Shawshank Redemption” is one of them. I unruffled remember clearly walking out of the theater in 1994 and thinking that I’ve objective seen one of the best movies that I’ll ever have the pleasure of sitting through. A movie so ravishing and emotional that is perfect in its plot of storytelling. A movie that is about how hope can never die. The movie earned several Academy Award nominations that were certainly well-deserved, but it left theaters all too speedy. Over the years though, it has gained a strong cult following.

The movie stars Tim Robbins in one of his very best performances as Andrew Dufresne, a tranquil man who is convicted of the slay of his wife and is sent to Shawshank prison. It’s there he meets “Red”, a convict played by Morgan Freeman who gets things from the outside for a note. He first sees Andy as he’s lead into the prison and predicts that he won’t last long inside the prison walls. Over time though, he’s suprised that the young man is able to survive and soon, the two become friends with respect for each other. Andy is not a man who “fights the system”. He spends his days in his believe aloof world, a courage that the other prisoners don’t quite understand at first. Robbins has built this character in a scheme that we the performance is not showy, but subtle. The result is that we want to know more and when we do commence to understand his ways, that only makes us want him to succeed that distinguished more. I won’t go into considerable more in the contrivance of detail about the movie; if you haven’t seen it, I don’t want to slay any of the enjoyment of the movie; if you have, I’m positive you already have your feelings about the movie. This is a movie that’s not depressing; it has a lot of life to it and I believe that when they eye befriend at the 90’s, they will watch that this is one of the best pictures that was released during this time.

Yes, Warner Brothers has proven to made an error in judgement about their plan of going about putting this DVD out. There was an announcement over a year ago, I believe; then previous announcements came later after the first delay promising a director’s commentary, then a Morgan Freeman commentary, then, in the final moments before the DVD is released this week…nothing. It’s a shame, as “Shawshank” is a film deserving of distinguished more. I express piece of me is satisfied with the fact that this film is finally on DVD, although if this is the final product, there is no reason in my mind that this couldn’t have been released a long, is an pleasurable looking image. One of the best cinematographers in the business (Roger Deakins- “Fargo”) did the filming on this characterize and the pale colors are represented well throughout the characterize, mainly browns and greys. Like the movie, there is an elegance to the visual style on this describe that is apparent in every movie that Deakins has worked on. Images are sure and crisp throughout; entertaining, but not overly enchanting for a “peaceful” feeling that looks very film-like.

There are few problems, and none of them are terribly distracting at all. There is a minute intelligent in a scene or two and some very minute instances of grain. Other than that, this is an obliging looking image that will certainly aesthetic sound mix. It’s also a newly remastered 5.1 mix. It’s not flashy or showy, nor does it need to be. It does however, do what it needs to do best very well. The net by Thomas Newman is absolutely fabulous and it sounds distinct and crisp throughout the narrate. Surrounds are attach into consume occasionally, but always in a subtle device that is upright for the describe. What I was happy about most though, was how rich and shapely the obtain sounded on this DVD. Dialogue is determined and without problems as well. Again, Non-animated main menus that have the get playing in the dissapointment of this DVD; all that’s included is the trailer and some production stills.

Final Thoughts Although it’s discouraged that this isn’t the special edition that it should have been it is a must for any collection. I’m satisfied the film is finally being realized by more and more people as a classic allotment of filmmaking, which I’ve always considered it to be.

It has long been my contention that it is the moviemaker’s task to possess the viewer’s attention, not to burden him with his self-indulgent, difficult-to-follow symbolisms.

That having been said, I get it difficult to acquire another movie I would recommend more highly than The Shawshank Redemption. Without any high-adrenaline action sequences or steamy sex scenes (two sure-fire ways to bag the vewer’s attention), this film somehow has the power to invent you sit through all 142 minutes without for a moment getting bored. And I challenge anyone who has seen it to delete any scene, even any small, from the final edit. The fact is, you can’t. Because every single scene is an primary element that contributes to the final result: a masterpiece that captures the drama of enduring friendship and resiliency of the human spirit more powerfully than any other film ever made. Even those who normally do not inspect movies with a primary examine will collect themselves so drawn into this experience. I really can’t say enough about this film. Suffice it to say that this is certainly the Greatest Movie Not to Salvage an Oscar. (Since Citizen Kane, at least. )

Actually, I can forgive the Film Academy for not honoring this film with the Oscars I firmly contain it deserved. But when the American Film Institute in 1998 save together their list of The 100 Greatest Movies of all time (covering the period from 1896-1996), and so myopically overlooked Shawshank in favor of such titles as Rocky, Dr. Strangelove, Network, and Jaws, well, I notion that was absolutely ridiculous.

I wouldn’t hesitate to build it in the top five of all time.

It has been a while since I’ve reviewed something on my lifelong favorite’s list. So I’ve chosen “Time After Time” because it isn’t very well known by younger audiences nor is it necessarily considered a “classic.”

However, I instantly fell in adore with this movie over 25 years ago–and I peaceful deem it a rip-roaring honorable time!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

Starting out with the most bizarre space ever, “Time After Time” will support you enthralled. It is a attractive popcorn flick–fast, light, fun, and interesting in equal measures. Place in 1893, we meet H. G. Wells (Malcolm MacDowell) who is unknowingly friends with Jack The Ripper (David Warner) . MacDowell has constructed a time machine which Warner misappropriates as he is fleeing the authorities. He travels to unusual day San Francisco where he continues his murderous ways. MacDowell follows him, he must end Jack The Ripper! He meets up with a local woman, Mary Steenburgen, who helps him adjusts and ultimately gets caught up in his unlikely anecdote.

“Time After Time” succeeds in several different genres concurrently. This is a credible sci-fi pic, a sweet romance, a fish out of water comedy, as well as a decent serial killer thriller. I believe that’s what I treasure and respect about this film, it’s out there. There is no intention that this narrate should work, it should be awful. And yet, inexplicably, Nicholas Meyer has crafted an intricate and valorous work. Even if I didn’t appreciate this movie, I would respect its ambition and scope. But adore it I do, this is one of the most wildly engaging pictures you could hope to peek. Some people might be tempted to dismiss this work as dated or even slight–and yes, you do have to win that this is a product of the 70’s. There are references to “free care for” and other concepts of the era, but at the same time–the film is incredibly prescient about violence in the novel age. Every time Warner describes how he was meant to exist in this future, where killings and debauchery are commonplace, I understand a steady truth in his sentiment.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

The performances are cracking sterling. MacDowell is the unlikeliest hero and a refreshing romantic lead. Warner has NEVER NEVER been better. If you are even a passing fan of his, you must watch this describe. And Mary Steenburgen is a delight–she doesn’t do enough these days! Maybe this isn’t highbrow entertainment, but it is heavenly fun. Recommended to all without even the slightest hesitation. KGHarris, 12/06.

It’s astonishing that with time go stories having been around for 100 years that we can continue to reflect of variations. In this case the variation is a respectable one, perhaps one of the best that has ever been done.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

A relatively innocent and naive H.G. Wells, well-played by a Malcolm McDowell very different from the one that played Alex in “A Clockwork Orange”, sets the stage for Jack the Ripper, played by David Warner, to recede forward into 1979 to menace fresh San Francisco.

The movie has a few flaws. The special effects of time recede are a bit cheesy. Fortunately time depart is a plot to location the stage for the movie, and the outmoded special effects can be forgiven given the quality of the rest of the movie. As for why the time machine moved from London to San Francisco, there isn’t any really satisfactory arrangement to elaborate how that happened. The best explanation I can give is that the Earth was spinning below the time machine as it maintained a fixed station. However, gravity must have played a role because had that been really suitable, both Jack the Ripper and H.G. Wells would have ended up in outer situation as The Earth and the solar system moved out from under them. If you can suspend your opinion in time depart you can also suspend your notion in how the time machine moved.

Getting past the special effects you accept to a righteous early performance by twenty-five year outmoded Mary Steenburgen. She plays a very recent woman to Malcolm McDowell’s Victorian naivete, and while she is very unique, holding an executive place and talking about sexual relationships with the casualness of pre-aids 1979, she also has an innocence of her fill that is well marvelous to Malcolm’s character.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Time After Time! Click Here

David Warner, who has often played in terrible guy roles, moves from relatively restrictive Victorian London to the relatively violent society of 20th century San Francisco, where, as he tells Malcolm McDowell, he fits true in with his violent ways. David projects such a fabulous matter-of-fact depraved that is perfectly believable and all the more evil because he seems so normal except when threatening or killing someone. His casual tendency to bloody violence (which unfortunately leads to more periodic musty special effects when blood splatters) incompatibility well with the relative innocence of McDowell and Steenburgen.

The entire point of the movie is that H.G. Wells created the time machine that allowed Jack the Ripper to flee to wreak havoc on fresh utopian society (so H.G. Wells opinion it would have to be), and Wells feels obligated to halt him. Jack must prevent Wells from interfering with his plans, and so must find the key of the time machine from him. So each is pursuing the other for the majority of the film.

While the necessary sage is the accelerate between McDowell and Warner, McDowell and Steenburgen obtain a perfectly matched romance that becomes the secondary and ultimately a very significant fraction of the sage. The movie would have survived on the romance alone, but then it would have been very similar to the Christopher Reeve movie “Somewhere in Time” released the year after this movie that was primarily about romance, and relied more on fantasy than science fiction.

The climax of this movie builds until the ultimate showdown between McDowell and Warner that contains enough surprises that all but the most jaded of movie fans should earn suspenseful (no, I’m not going to give away the ending honest in case you haven’t seen the movie) . The first time I saw this movie I know I was surprised by the last 15 minutes or so.

The DVD is filled with a variety of extras that more than perform this movie worth the relatively paltry imprint. Certainly the myth makes it a fitting companion to the earlier George Pal version with Rod Taylor taking the lead role.

Almost a 5-star rated movie, be prepared to seek it for McDowell’s wide-eyed innocent notion of current San Francisco as he chases about after someone who has no such innocence. One of the best stories space with a time disappear background, and well done by the lead actors.

I have liked Melissa Joan Hart since her days on Clarissa Explains It All so I was tickled to perceive she was wait on on TV again. This movie takes location at Christmas time and is basically a epic about a woman who sees herself as a failure through her family’s eyes and is hoping that bringing home her successful boyfriend for Christmas will present she finally got something accurate, until he dumps her Christmas Eve and leaves her hanging.

She sees a very stunning man at the diner where she is working and tells her mom everything is hunky dory and kidnaps the elegant guy and takes him hostage (hence the handcuffs) . From here the status unravels in the typical romantic comedy faire where he is trying to convince everyone he’s been kidnapped and she says it’s a kind of joke he likes to play and we all net our pleased ending. As I have said, it is the typically romantic comedy space but there are some very laughable moments and I can definitely study myself watching this movie again. If you like MJH, you will relish this movie.

I savor this film! It is quirky, a bit bent, and definitely not your typical Christmas movie. Although produced by ABC Family Channel, it is NOT a film for children under 14, as there are many adult references as well as language. It’s a lot of fun, very comic and appetizing. I’ve watched it over and over and haven’t tired of it yet!

OK to distinct up some confusion about the latest incarnation of “The Muppet Movie” this edition is celebrating the fact that Kermit always a bit green around the gills is 50 years feeble. That said I’m completely unimpressed with this edition of a classic family movie. I’ll bag to the reasons why in objective a bit in the meantime here’s a recap of the station for those of you who have forgotten what its about.

Discovered by a grand time agent (Dom DeLuise) playing his banjo among the reeds and lilly pads, Kermit (Jim Henson) moves to Hollywood for fame and fortune. Along the arrangement he hooks up with Miss Piggy (Frank Oz), Fozzie Believe (Frank Oz) and other Muppets who are looking for their road to the colossal time. Kermit is pursued by Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) who wants to inaugurate a chain of rapid food frog leg restaurants. He hopes to create Kermit his company mascot. Along the plan Kermit and his friends meet a who’s who of Hollywood’s funniest comedians along the procedure. Featuring a who’s who list of top notch celebrity talent including Mel Brooks, Madeline Kahnm Richard Pryor, Edgar Bergen, Steve Martin and others, “The Muppet Movie” provided the early template for family films that could also be adult apt as well.

With shining intellectual colors “The Muppet Movie” looks solid in this DVD transfer but the film could have musty a bit of restoration. Image clarity and sharpness are not what they could have been as well with an occasional softness that surprised me. Granted, this edition looks better than the Tri-Star release of four years ago but the film really needs to be carefully restored improving the overall image and sound quality. The 5.1 Dolby Digital mix presents dialogue with nice clarity but the music come by and impartial about everything else in the movie’s soundtrack comes across sounding tightly compressed. Again, an overall disappointment even when compared to the previous edition of this movie from four years ago.

I would have belief that a colossal movie would deserve big extras. Instead, the best extra from the previous edition (Frawley’s test footage) is missing from this edition. Instead of that we find an underwhelming five little featurette about Kermit. It’s a demolish of money and station on the DVD. We also catch the usual assortment of Disney previews at the beginning although you can skip them. A ticket to Disney–including a burly mask version of the same movie no longer counts as a special feature

About the only righteous thing about this DVD release are the chapters placed throughout the film. It makes navigating to a particular scene blooming easy overall but that’s not saying noteworthy in an age where “The Wizard of Oz” gets a deluxe three DVD edition or even the current “War of the Worlds” a two disc edition. Honestly, it feels like Disney blew it here. I’m not certain they knew what they wanted to place on the disc and this smells suspiciously like a double dip down the line. Considering the deluxe treatment that Disney recently gave “The Muppet Prove” on DVD, I’m really surprised at how shabbily they treated this classic film.

A classic that receives truly pedestrian treatment, I’d recommend waiting to peep if a deluxe edition of this film is coming out before buying. If you don’t have the very marvelous previous edition of this film on DVD and feel you must have it now by all means feel free to take it up. I have the clear feeling you’ll be kicking yourself later however and suggest renting and then taking a wait and scrutinize attitude about buying this weak “Special Edition”. Man talk about being green, watching the treatment this classic received on DVD made me sick to my stomach.

I appreciate the Muppet Movie. Its nods to film noir and buddy films, the music by the amazing Paul Williams, the celebrity cameos, the characters–especially Miss Piggy and Fozzie.

Now then, I always watched the Muppets very aware that the movies were working on both the child and adult level, and happily place in the DVD anticipating my well-liked muppet joke of all: when Kermit walks into a bar after having lost Piggy and says, sadly, “I’ll have a grasshopper, please.”

Great joke! Kids won’t know what a “grasshopper” is or that he is boozing over being stood up–they’ll fair tune out til the music!

So why did they slit it from the DVD?

Especially when they kept the visual that Kermit drank alllll the champagne after Piggy left, and Rowlf’s assertion that every night he has “a coupla beers.” This PC thing has gone too far. I teach it’s not enough to deduct a whole star–except it’s my all time fave muppet moment.

Oh well, like the movie. And worship the DVD option of watching it in French, where they have to change Piggy’s trademark “Moi!” to “Me.”

Zeitgeist Films presents a documentary directed and written by Philip Groning. In French and Latin with English subtitles. Filmmaker Philip Groning spent six months living among the monks of the Huge Chartreuse Charterhouse in the French Alps for his documentary “Into Gigantic Silence.” The filmmaker was granted unprecedented permission to film in 2002. This was not given lightly, for his inquire was attach forth to the prior sixteen years earlier.

This is cinema at its purest and most exalted. It is hard to dwelling into words a film, which is wrought in silence. For 162-minutes you will be allowed a study of the ascetic strictness of the monks. I do not ogle this as a documentary, but an immersion into an entire method of life that will have no voiceovers or explanations. Unprejudiced a shrimp portion of our time spent in transcendent meditation on the human pursuit of meaning, on man as a religious and social creature, on the invent and function of symbols, ritual and traditions. And on the rhythms of work and prayer, night and day, winter and spring.

It is a magnificent film where everyone will buy away something different and hopefully fulfilling. The film will not allow you to enter the world of the monks, but to unbiased opinion it from the outside. You will spy the day-to-day activities from season to season and be able to produce your believe opinions and conclusions. Many may at first experience impatience at the repetitions and variations encountered, but allow yourself time to adjust to the contemplative swagger. And be watch to the ordinary moments that taken together are a representation of grace.

The Carthusian monks who are the subjects of this documentary do not have a titanic deal to say. Living in a light-filled stone charterhouse in a picturesque valley in the French Alps, they bind themselves to a reveal not of literal silence but of crude reticence. We belief the daily lives, prayers and routines of this most ascetic of Catholic Orders founded in 1084 by Saint Bruno. The monks, because of their grunt of poverty, subsist on very microscopic. They pray aloud at times and reveal solemn Gregorian chants, but they rarely enlighten, except on there Monday walks.

The monks in their rigor and discipline salvage their freedom and fulfillment. Your conception on the monastery and our world will change as the movie progresses. And isn’t that what a favorable movie or book is deliver to execute? It is a world of yesteryear as it existed one thousand years ago, where some unique technology has crept in, as you will gaze. In our new world of suitable decay this gives us a window to a worn Catholic existence. A two thousand year tradition of following the Desert Fathers into a blueprint of life that is rarely, if ever, seen.

I feel that this film is about the presence of God, a God who is there for those who study Him with their whole hearts. In the film only a blind monk offers some simple but piercing observations on Christian happiness, abandonment to God’s providential care, and the tragedy of the loss of faith and meaning in the recent world.

This film is not only for Catholics, it is for everyone in the world to scrutinize and befriend from.

I saw this film in the Independent Film Forum in NYC’s Greenwich Village, and ended up having a two hour discussion about it afterwards. The main thing that shrinking me about this film was how cheerful all of these monks are. If anyone would swear the average current American to have every hour of the rest of your life neatly regimented into time segments, without time for television, vacations, or intimacy with members of the opposite sex, most Americans would thing of that as being excruciatingly difficult. However, when looking at the daily activities of these men, you “score it”. Because of the regimentation of their daily tasks, when they do derive a few hours on Sunday to talk, those hours are splendid and meaningful. Their lives seem like the plan life was supposed meant to be, one of hard work and communion with the Creator. I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a film that will lifeless their mental plod down and manufacture them consider on the importance of the various things you value in your acquire life.
